NASHVILLE, TN – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Middle Tennessee until noon today as freezing rain and sleet impact the area. Residents should be prepared for icy roads, especially on major routes like I-24 near Clarksville and Nashville.
Freezing rain began Sunday morning, with the potential for snow accumulations of up to 0.10 inches, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Travel conditions are expected to remain hazardous through the afternoon as temperatures will remain below zero. Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds and allow extra time for travel.
Looking ahead, additional rain is forecast throughout Sunday, with highs reaching 54 degrees as winds gust up to 25 mph. By Sunday night the temperature will drop to 29 degrees, due to which there is a possibility of snowfall on Monday morning. The work week starts off Monday with a 30% chance of snow, with temperatures reaching a high of 37 and strong northwest winds.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the sky will be mostly cloudy and there will be a cold trend, with the maximum temperature being 34 and 31 degrees respectively. Nighttime lows may dip into the teens, creating a continued risk for icy conditions.
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on weather updates and stay off the roads if possible during freezing conditions. Preparation actions include placing emergency supplies in vehicles and checking road conditions through 511 before traveling.
