East Texas – East Texas residents are under a tornado watch through Sunday evening as 21 counties, including Angelina, Montgomery and Nacogdoches, are under threat of severe storms. Officials are urging residents to prepare for potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the possibility of tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a tornado watch will be in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday, including counties like Liberty, Walker and Shelby. Affected areas are at risk for severe storms that could produce isolated tornadoes and large hail. Residents are advised to have a weather safety plan, including staying indoors and monitoring updates from local officials.

Stay alert to the weather by downloading emergency apps and make sure your phone is fully charged. Identify a safe room in your home away from windows and keep essential items in it. Avoid unnecessary travel, especially on major roads such as US Highway 59 and Interstate 45, where dangerous conditions may arise.

Following Monday’s severe weather, cooler air will move into the area. Tuesday is expected to be partly cloudy with high temperatures in the mid 60s. Conditions will remain calm till Wednesday, temperatures will rise slightly till Thursday.
