Chicago, IL – Hazardous travel conditions are expected starting tonight across Illinois as snow and high winds make roads slippery and reduce visibility. Areas south of US-24, including Ford and Iroquois counties, are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6 pm Sunday through 6 am Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, 2-5 inches of snow accumulation is possible in these southern areas, where blowing snow could significantly impact visibility. The Chicago metro area will see scattered snow tonight, with winds reaching a maximum of 25 mph and a low of 18 degrees. Motorists are urged to allow additional travel time and increase the following distances if conditions worsen.
The stormy weather will continue on Monday and there is a possibility of snowfall in the morning and the maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees. Wind chills will drop into the single digits with north winds gusting up to 30 mph. Monday evening will be partly cloudy with a low around 18 degrees, although additional snowfall may occur south of Chicago.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday provide respite with partly sunny skies and calm conditions. Highs will range between 23-26 degrees, with nights that will be cool in the lower teens. By Thursday, the area will warm slightly to near 26.
