Birmingham, AL – Rain and gusty winds are forecast to hit Birmingham and surrounding areas tonight into Monday, posing safety concerns. A wind advisory has been issued for Sunday night, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph, especially after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service, steady showers will increase late Sunday evening, transitioning into thunderstorms overnight. Rainfall may total up to three-quarters of an inch, potentially causing minor road hazards. Winds will pick up throughout the evening, creating the strongest gusts after dark. Commuters are advised to avoid poorly lit roads and watch for slick surfaces.

Monday will bring cooler temperatures, with highs dropping into the upper 30s by the afternoon. Breezy conditions will persist, with winds out of the west reaching 35 mph. The region will remain cloudy through Monday evening, with temperatures plummeting to the mid-20s overnight.

The extended forecast shows clearing skies starting Tuesday, but temperatures will remain cold. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will hover around 40 degrees, with lows dipping into the low 20s. Sunshine is expected to return midweek, offering some relief from the chilly, wet start to the week.

Residents should prepare for the cold by securing loose outdoor items, dressing warmly, and staying updated through local weather alerts.
