WPBN: The United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Vanessa Roberts Avery, made the announcement that Jacquerie Labronze Gibson, also known as “Compton,” was given a sentence of twelve years in federal prison for the trafficking of weapons and crack cocaine.
Following his incarceration, Gibson, who is 44 years old and lives in Hartford, will also be required to serve three years of supervised release.
Following the receipt of evidence that Gibson was trafficking firearms that had been obtained in North Carolina by Jacintre Holley and others operating on Holley’s behalf, law enforcement officials initiated an investigation into Gibson in August 2021, as stated in court documents and statements made in the courtroom on the same day.
The investigation also revealed that Gibson was turning cocaine into crack cocaine at his flat on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford. Additionally, the investigators discovered that Gibson was trafficking narcotics and sometimes bartering them for firearms.
In accordance with a search warrant that was carried out on Gibson’s residence on August 12, 2021, the following items were taken into custody:
- Handgun loaded with a Taurus Model G3 9mm cartridge
- Extra ammo is available.
- A vest that is bulletproof
- Crack cocaine to the tune of approximately 90 grams
- Materials used in the production and packaging of drugs
- Cash amounting to $860
The arrest of Gibson took place at the site.
During the course of the inquiry, it was discovered that Gibson’s firearm source in North Carolina had sold roughly 15 firearms to Gibson, in addition to selling fifty more firearms to various buyers in Connecticut.
At least sixteen of these firearms have been found at crime sites in and around Connecticut since the time of the incident. Among these firearms is one that was used in a homicide that occurred in Middletown on May 16, 2021.
Gibson has an extensive criminal record, which includes previous felony convictions for drug offenses, burglary, and failure to appear, as well as a conviction for first-degree assault in 2005, which stems from an attack with a knife on his girlfriend at the time.
In accordance with federal law, individuals who have been convicted of a felony are not permitted to own firearms or ammunition that have been transported in interstate or international commerce.
Beginning with his arrest, Gibson has been held in custody. On the 31st of August, 2023, he entered a guilty plea to the charges of unauthorized possession of a handgun by a felon and possession of cocaine base (crack) with the intent to distribute.
On Friday, the sentence of 144 months was handed down by the United States District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in the federal court located in Hartford.
A previous term of 127 months in federal prison in the Eastern District of North Carolina was handed down to Jacintre Holley, who was Gibson’s supplier of firearms. This sentence was handed down on February 23, 2023.
