The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester United amid the threat of “snow and freezing rain [that] will likely lead to disruption to transport and some other services.”
As much as 40 centimeters of snow has been forecast in some areas across the UK. Snow and rain are expected to hamper traveling conditions for fans attending the game while the temperature is set to feel like it is below zero.
Just a few weeks ago, Liverpool’s trip to Goodison Park to play Everton was postponed due to conditions being deemed unsafe for travel. That match is yet to be rescheduled but will take place amid an already congested calendar.

The Merseyside derby was a 12.30pm kick-off UK time (7.30am ET) and was called off around three hours before. Liverpool vs Manchester United is due to kick-off at 4.30pm UK time (11.30am ET).
Liverpool is currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League table and already has one game in hand. Arne Slot’s men could see that advantage cut into by Arsenal and Chelsea, who play later today. Nottingham Forest plays Wolves on Monday night.
“The things I have said many times, if you want to win a game then you have to outwork the opponent,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference. “Then, second of all, you need a good balance in set-pieces, especially in the big games against quality players.
“Then, if that is balanced out or that is the same, then it is mostly about the quality of the players, so if you have 34 shots then that tells me that maybe you need a bit of luck as well then maybe sometimes during a game.
“Maybe it was also really well defended by United; I don’t remember the game really well, so maybe they threw themselves every time in front of the ball — that’s also part of winning games.
“We need to be in the best possible way prepared because every game in the Premier League is a difficult one, but especially a game where you face quality players that, I think, will feel this is a chance for them to make their fans proud again.
“So, if they do the same — winning at West Ham United away — the fans will like it, but it’s even more important for them to win here at Anfield. Then, quality players are always dangerous if they set their mind to something, so we have to be really, really, really well prepared to beat United.”
