An updated weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 2:37 p.m. for snow showers until 3:30 p.m. for Higher Elevations of Indiana as well as Mercer, Venango, Lawrence, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, Armstrong and Indiana counties.
“At 2:37 p.m., Public reported snow showers along an axis from near New Wilmington to near Punxsutawney,” according to the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include New Castle, Hermitage, Sharon, Butler, Grove City, Punxsutawney, Sharpsville, Kittanning, Rimersburg, Homeacre-Lyndora, Greenville, Farrell, Shanor-Northvue, Meridian, Slippery Rock, Ford City, Meadowood, New Wilmington, Oak Hills and Oakwood. This includes the following highways: Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 42. Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 95 and 126. Interstate 376 between mile markers 0 and 14.
The weather service adds, “Use extra caution if you must travel into or through these snow showers. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads are likely to lead to accidents. Localized accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible within this narrow axis. Consider delaying travel until the snow showers pass your location.”
