ALEXANDRIA, LA – Tornadoes and damaging winds are expected across Louisiana on Sunday as an intense storm system moves through the region. Central Louisiana, including Alexandria, faces an elevated risk (level 3 out of 5) for severe weather, with the greatest threats being tornadoes, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms will begin forming in western Louisiana late Sunday morning and will intensify by the afternoon as they move east. The severe threat will peak between 2 pm and 9 pm, with the potential for high-speed tornadoes and widespread damaging winds. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge devices and identify a safe shelter location before the storm approaches.
High temperatures in Alexandria on Sunday will reach 75°F, with heavy rainfall expected to accumulate one to three inches. The temperature will drop rapidly after the storm. Monday will see highs only in the mid 40s, with lows dropping to 26°F.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm and monitor road conditions through Louisiana’s 511 system. Report dangerous situations or reckless drivers to *LSP (*577). Use multiple ways to receive weather alerts and make sure family members know where to seek shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
Stay alert, Louisiana, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
