ATHENS, OH – Southeastern Ohio is experiencing a significant winter storm with snow, ice and hazardous conditions from Sunday morning through Monday evening. Residents should prepare for widespread travel disruptions and possible power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning Effective from Sunday 7am to Monday 7pm. Forecasters expect 5 to 8 inches of snow accumulation, with accumulations totaling up to a quarter of an inch. Bridges and overpasses would freeze rapidly, creating hazardous travel conditions. Heavy snow can also damage power lines and tree branches, causing power outages for days in some areas.

The hardest-hit areas include Athens, Jackson and Gallia counties. Residents are urged to prepare their homes for extended closures by charging appliances, stocking up on non-perishable food and securing backup heat sources.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to remain below zero until mid-week, which will delay road restoration. Due to mild conditions, the movement may continue on Tuesday also. By Wednesday, expect partly clear skies, with daytime highs reaching the mid 30s.
