Columbia, SC – The storm system is expected to bring rain and strong winds to Colombia on Sunday night, followed by a drop in temperatures. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises residents to be prepared for strong winds and rain through Sunday evening, with the heaviest rainfall expected by Monday morning.
According to the NWS, temperatures will rise briefly ahead of the storm, reaching the low 50s Sunday afternoon and then dropping rapidly as the cold front approaches. Winds could reach gusts up to 25 mph, potentially affecting travel on I-20 and local roads. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, especially during the Monday morning commute when roads are wet and visibility is likely to be low.
The storm system will clear by Monday night, leaving the sky mostly clear and the minimum temperature around 27 degrees. A cold air mass will persist ahead of the front, with daytime high temperatures in the upper 40s by midweek. The temperature is expected to drop to 20 degrees by Tuesday night, which will be one of the coldest nights of this season.
Residents should secure outdoor items before Sunday evening and monitor local forecasts for updates. This week’s dry weather following the storm will allow time for roads to clear, but layers will be necessary for those spending time outside in cooler conditions.
