Binghamton, NY – A lake effect snow warning remains in effect for parts of central New York through Sunday at 4 p.m., bringing up to 2 feet of snow in localized areas, according to the National Weather Service. Residents in Madison, Onondaga, and Oneida counties should prepare for hazardous travel and reduced visibility.
The heaviest snowfall is expected along the NY Thruway corridor, with bands of snow shifting south Saturday morning before lifting back north by Saturday night into Sunday. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will contribute to blowing snow and downed branches, further complicating road conditions.
The National Weather Service advises residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight in case of delays or becoming stranded. Visibility can drop rapidly within the snow bands, so drivers should proceed with caution and check road conditions by calling 511.
Temperatures will remain cold, with highs near 27°F on Saturday and 26°F Sunday. Snowfall will taper off Sunday evening, but roadways may remain icy into Monday.
The extended forecast for the area includes mostly cloudy skies and lows in the teens early next week, with little additional snowfall expected after Sunday. Residents are urged to clear snow promptly and monitor local updates for safety alerts.
