Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers will taper off today in southwest Michigan, but temperatures remain dangerously cold, with wind chills near zero. Drivers east of US-131 should prepare for slippery road conditions this morning.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow will continue until early afternoon, leaving roads icy and visibility low. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will create wind chills as low as -5°F. Saturday’s high will barely reach 22°F, while tonight’s low dips to 17°F.
Sunday brings mostly cloudy skies with slightly warmer highs near 25°F. Northwest winds will ease to 5 mph, providing some relief from wind chill. Monday and Tuesday remain cold but dry, with sunny skies and highs of 26°F and 27°F, respectively.
Hazardous travel could return midweek. The forecast indicates another snow system may impact the area Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed by a potential lake-effect snowstorm on Friday.
Residents should monitor road conditions and dress in layers to stay warm. Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.
This week’s frigid temperatures and snow are a stark reminder of Michigan’s harsh winters. Plan ahead and stay updated on local weather alerts.
