Pendleton, OR – Moderate flooding is expected on the John Day River at Service Creek this weekend, with the river level reaching 12.8 feet Saturday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued flood warnings, emphasizing danger to low-lying areas and roads near the river. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads and monitor conditions closely.
The river reached 11.59 feet at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, near the flood stage of 11.5 feet, according to the NWS. Water levels are expected to rise further before dropping below flood level late Saturday night. Officials have urged people living near flood-prone areas to exercise caution and stay informed through local weather alerts.
Rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend. Saturday’s forecast includes rain starting after 4 p.m., with a high of 46°F. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 39°F as rain continues, potentially worsening conditions in flood-prone areas.
There is some respite on Sunday, the rain subsides in the early morning, the sky remains mostly cloudy and the maximum temperature remains near 51°F. However, scattered fog and cooler temperatures will settle in Sunday night with lows hovering around 36°F.
Looking ahead, dense fog will remain on Monday and Tuesday, with little chance of rain and temperatures in the mid 30s to low 40s. By Wednesday, expect dry weather, mostly sunny skies with a high of 42°F.
