DWI Task Force Initiative Leads to Over 90 Arrests, Significant Drop in DWI Crashes in Houston

In a three-night, multi-agency DWI Task Force initiative, law enforcement officers from eight different agencies in Houston and Harris County conducted proactive traffic enforcement, resulting in significant arrests and traffic safety improvements.

The initiative took place from December 27 to December 31, 2024, and led to 712 traffic stops, 400+ citations, and over 300 warnings issued. Of the 93 total arrests made, 54 were for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

This enforcement effort potentially prevented 54 crashes that could have been disastrous for the community. In addition, Houston Police Department (HPD) officers investigated only two DWI crashes on New Year’s Eve 2024, a marked improvement compared to 12 DWI-related crashes on the same night the previous year, reflecting a 66% decrease.
