KANSAS CITY, MO – A powerful winter storm is bringing up to 15 inches of snow and blizzard conditions to Missouri and Kansas by Monday morning.
The National Weather Service issued winter storm and blizzard warnings for areas including Kansas City, St. Joseph and Liberty. Heavy snow, ice and winds up to 40 mph will cause whiteout conditions. Visibility is expected to be less than 1/4 mile during the peak of the storm Sunday morning.
Travel may be dangerous or impossible. Residents should stay indoors and avoid unnecessary trips. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend carrying a winter survival kit with food, water and a flashlight.
Local emergency services urge preparedness. Stock up on essential supplies and prepare for possible power outages. “Stay safe and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary,” local officials warned.
