BERKELEY — Police continued to seek information Friday after a mother told them that two people in a van tried to take her child early Thursday.
In a statement, Berkeley police said the woman told them that she was walking with her son about 6:55 a.m. in the area of Ninth and Addison streets when the encounter happened.
Police have not found the two people who the woman said approached her and asked anyone with information to contact them.
The woman told police that a man and woman who she did not know approached in a large white van and tried to grab the child. Police said she also told them that she and the child ran away to safety.
Officers called to the area were unable to find the van. Police said they were notified about 7:25 a.m. They added that they “have collected evidence and continue to search for information to understand what occurred.”
Police also said they do not believe there is an ongoing danger to the public, based on their investigation to this point.
