Raleigh, NC – Central North Carolina will see strong winds today, with gusts up to 40 mph possible in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has issued an advisory for residents to be prepared for potential wind-related hazards as the Arctic cold front passes through the area.
According to the NWS, wind gusts will peak this afternoon and continue into the evening, especially in northern counties. While most areas may experience winds of 25-30 mph, gusts as high as 45 mph may occur at times. Drivers on major roads including I-40 and US 1 should use caution as high winds can affect vehicle control, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Temperatures tonight will drop into the mid 20s, with wind chill making it feel even colder. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items such as holiday decorations and trash to avoid damage or debris.
Looking ahead, Saturday will see clear skies and sunshine, with a high near 40°F. However, cooler temperatures will persist and winds will remain gusty at 15-20 mph. By Sunday, the chance of rain increases in the afternoon, with an 80% chance of rain Sunday night as another cold front moves in.
The first week of January will be cold, with the maximum day temperature falling to 40 degrees and the night minimum temperature falling to 20 degrees. Plan according to cold conditions and stay updated with the latest forecasts.
