ALBANY, NY – A band of moderate to heavy lake-effect snow is moving through the southern Adirondacks tonight, covering Saratoga and Washington counties. Rapidly reduced visibility and poor road conditions are creating hazardous travel conditions, especially along the Northway (I-87).
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will continue until midnight, which is expected to cause sudden changes in driving conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Wind gusts up to 28 mph will increase visibility challenges, especially during evening travel and early morning hours.
Temperatures are forecast to drop to 27°F tonight, increasing the potential for icy patches on untreated roads. Residents should avoid using cruise control while driving in these conditions and be prepared for possible delays.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring relief with partly sunny skies and a high of 34°F. However, strong westerly winds gusting up to 25 mph will keep conditions brisk. Saturday night could see a slight chance of snow, but the weekend will be mostly cloudy with highs in the 20s.
