Omaha, NE – A winter storm is headed to eastern Nebraska this weekend, bringing snow, icy roads and dangerous driving conditions to major highways, including I-80. The National Weather Service predicts snowfall will begin Saturday evening and intensify through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop to 12°F Saturday night in Omaha, and 1 to 3 inches of snow will accumulate by the morning. Drivers should be prepared for low visibility, slick roads and possible delays, especially on well-traveled routes like Highway 75 and I-29.
The heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday morning, with snowfall totals exceeding three inches in some areas. Cold winds blowing from the northwest at 25 mph are expected to produce lows below zero. Motorists are advised to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and limit non-essential travel during the storm.
Looking ahead, temperatures will drop further on Monday, with a high near 13°F and a low around zero. The bitter cold will continue on Tuesday, with sunny but cool conditions expected and a high of just 14°F. Conditions will improve slightly by Wednesday, becoming partly cloudy with highs reaching 12°F.
