PENDLETON, OR – Oregon and Washington residents are advised to prepare for dangerous winter weather starting Thursday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter weather advisories for many areas, predicting snow, freezing rain and icy roads.
According to the NWS, precipitation will begin to fall in Oregon’s Blue Mountain foothills and north central areas around 7 p.m., bringing freezing rain accumulations of up to 0.1 inches of snow. In Washington, 1-3 inches of snowfall is expected in the Yakima and Kittitas valleys beginning at 1 a.m. Friday.
Hazardous conditions could be seen on highways such as U.S. Route 26 near Oregon and Cetus Pass in Washington. Snow accumulation near Sisters, OR, and Roslyn, WA may further complicate travel. Commuters are urged to exercise caution and plan ahead for Friday morning travel.
Drivers are encouraged to check Tripcheck.com in Oregon or wsdot.wa.gov/travel in Washington for updates.
