CLEVELAND, OH – Lake effect snowfall continues across Northeast Ohio, with a snowfall warning in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday. Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties face hazardous travel conditions as visibility is reduced and roads become slick.
Snowfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour are reducing visibility to less than a mile, especially along I-90, according to the National Weather Service. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure vehicles are prepared for winter with tire chains and emergency kits. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected this evening.
The dangerous weather does not end here. A Winter Storm Watch will go into effect Friday morning and last through Sunday, with heavy snowfall of 6 inches or more expected. Winds can gust as much as 35 miles per hour, causing blowing and drifting snow. Those traveling this weekend should monitor forecasts and be prepared for delays or cancellations.
The high temperature on Friday will be near 31°F and snow conditions will continue. Additional accumulations of up to 3 inches are possible through Saturday. Sunday will bring some relief with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 27°F, but another system could bring more snowfall early next week.
Officials recommend using caution when venturing out, as icy roads and poor visibility are likely to persist. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov or tune in to local radio stations.
