HAMILTON, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Hamilton and Herkimer counties until 4 p.m. Saturday, with snowfall totals potentially reaching 18 inches in local areas under the most persistent snow bands.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall with wind gusts up to 45 mph will create hazardous conditions, including visibility reduced to below 1/4 mile and blowing and drifting snow.
Travel can be difficult, especially during peak traffic times. Power cuts are also possible due to falling tree branches. Residents are advised to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles and stay updated on road conditions by calling 511.
Rapid changes in weather and road conditions are expected as snow cover shifts across the region.
