Kansas, KS – A winter storm is expected to bring freezing rain, snow and hazardous travel conditions to Kansas this weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita estimates that the storm will begin Saturday evening and intensify by Sunday morning, with maximum impacts expected during the night. Areas across the state may experience accumulations of ice, freezing drizzle and blizzard conditions, creating hazardous road conditions. The storm is expected to impact cities like Wichita, Lawrence and Salina.
According to the NWS, travel could be hazardous due to icy conditions and low visibility. Residents are advised to prepare by stocking up on a winter car kit including blankets, flashlights and non-perishable food. Officials also recommend monitoring weather updates and considering alternative travel plans, especially from Saturday night into Sunday.
This winter storm is the first significant weather event of the year, reminding Kansans to remain vigilant. The NWS urges residents to exercise caution and plan ahead.
