Snow and dangerous conditions are expected to impact Pennsylvania on Friday, especially in areas south of Interstate 80, including the Pittsburgh metro area. Local officials are warning drivers to prepare for delays and challenging travel.
Snowfall will intensify Friday morning, with 1 to 3 inches possible by the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Additional snow bands, driven by Lake Erie, could bring high totals and reduced visibility in the afternoon. Drivers should use caution, especially on I-80 and major routes near Pittsburgh, where slick roads and severe thunderstorms are expected.
A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued for Tucker and Preston counties, where totals of more than six inches are forecast. As conditions develop, winter weather advisories may extend across Pennsylvania, with more widespread snowfall expected late Sunday through Monday.
Temperatures will be near freezing on Friday and will drop to the low 20s at night. Winds as high as 17 mph could cause snow and ice, making travel even more complicated. Snow showers could continue into Saturday morning, giving way to partly sunny skies before another system arrives late Sunday night.
Travelers should allow extra time, check road conditions before departure and have emergency supplies on hand. Officials have also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
The five-day forecast indicates more snowfall on Monday, with temperatures expected to exceed 30 degrees by early next week. Stay informed about changing weather conditions and plan your winter trip accordingly.
