GREEN BAY, WI – Northeast Wisconsin residents should prepare for dangerously cold conditions as wind chills below zero are expected Friday night. Wind chills as low as -16 degrees are expected early Saturday, especially along the I-41 corridor. The National Weather Service warns that frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin.
According to the NWS Green Bay office, the coldest period will be Saturday morning, with wind chills ranging from -5 to -15 degrees. Temperatures will reach 20 degrees on Friday, but strong northwest winds will make it feel colder. The high on Saturday will reach just 18 degrees, with a slight warming under mostly sunny skies.
Residents are urged to take precautions by dressing in layers, limiting outdoor contact, and keeping pets indoors. Drivers should remain cautious on I-41 and secondary roads as light snowfall Thursday night may cause slippery conditions in isolated places.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain cool till Sunday with minimum temperatures falling into single digits. There will be slight respite on Monday and Tuesday, with partly sunny skies as maximum temperatures will reach the mid 20s.
If you have to travel this weekend, make sure your vehicle is winter-ready by maintaining your tire pressure and keeping an emergency kit on hand. The NWS recommends monitoring updated forecasts and taking wind chill advisories seriously to avoid cold-related health risks.
