WILMINGTON, NC – High pressure is expected to dominate the weather over eastern North Carolina, bringing sub-freezing temperatures to the region overnight. Residents should be prepared for a cool start to Friday morning, with low temperatures falling above 20 degrees across much of the area.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop rapidly after sunset tonight, with rural areas feeling the coldest. Clear skies and a low of 30°F are expected overnight in Wilmington. Be careful of icy spots on the roads, especially near bridges and overpasses on I-40 and US 74 during the morning commute.
There will be some relief on Friday as sunshine will help warm the area to a high of 54°F. Light winds will keep conditions rough throughout the afternoon. By Friday evening, temperatures will drop back into the upper 20s, leading to another cool night.
The weekend looks bright and dry, with high temperatures reaching the mid 50s under mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday. However, cloud cover will increase on Sunday evening, and rain is likely again by Monday night. Early forecasts call for a 60% chance of rain on Monday, with temperatures reaching near 64°F.
Residents are encouraged to protect plants, pets and open pipes during the coldest hours. Stay updated about road conditions and plan to wear warm clothing for outdoor activities.
