ALBANY, NY – High winds and lake-effect snow showers are expected to create hazardous conditions today, with travel along I-90 being particularly impacted. Wind gusts could reach up to 55 mph, potentially causing downed tree branches and power outages in Albany and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service, the wind advisory will be in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday. Residents should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel, especially for high-profile vehicles. Visibility may be reduced due to snowfall and drivers are urged to use caution.
Temperatures will remain cool, with a high today near 38°F and falling to 26°F tonight. Lake-effect snowfall will continue overnight before tapering off by Friday morning. Less than half an inch of snow accumulation is expected, but roads may remain slick.
Looking ahead, Friday will be partly sunny with a high near 34°F and light winds, providing some relief for residents. Cold conditions will continue through the weekend, with a chance of light snow Saturday afternoon and a high near 27°F. Sunday is going to be dry but cool, with a high of 28°F and a low of 15°F overnight.
Residents should monitor local weather updates and prepare for possible disruptions. Strong winds and freezing temperatures can increase the risk of hypothermia for those outside without proper clothing.
