WPBN: In spite of the fact that it is common knowledge that New Yorkers have high winter heating costs on an annual basis, it is possible that a new stimulus check will be of assistance to them in addressing this problem.
As a means of assisting those who are in the greatest need, the government provides a benefit that is designed to alleviate the financial burden that comes with having to pay to keep their houses warm during excessively hot weather.
This, in turn, helps to save important energy services and lessen the hazards to people’s health. Residents of disadvantaged populations in a city that has one of the highest expenses of living in the country are eligible to receive a stimulus check of up to $996 through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
A new stimulus check with a value of around $900 will be distributed to citizens of New York.
Even if heating is already included in a person’s rent, they are still eligible to get this stimulus payment, which allows them to pay for fuel and utilities, as well as the replacement and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
In addition, beginning on January 2, 2025, applications for emergency benefits for the years 2024–2025 will be accepted; eligibility is evaluated by a number of factors, including income, the resources that are available, and the type of situation.
It is important to keep in mind that the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) offer a stimulus check to homes that satisfy specific standards regarding their size and annual income. Additionally, the type of heating also plays a role in determining the amount of assistance that is supplied.
In the following table, you can find the maximum annual income for each household size for the years 2024–2025:
Number of People | Income ($) |
1 person | 47,890 |
2 persons | 62,570 |
3 people | 68,312 |
4 people | 76,681 |

Homeowners in the state of New York should also take into consideration the fact that the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will only accept the following types of heating sources:
- Electricity
- Natural gas
- Oil and kerosene
- Propane
