Gunman Who Killed 12 in Montenegro Shooting Rampage Ends Life by Suicide

WPBN: Officials announced on Thursday that the individual who was responsible for the shooting deaths of at least 12 people in Montenegro, including two children, had taken his own life while surrounded by law enforcement.

According to the officials, at least four other people were injured in the shooting rampage that took place on Wednesday in the town of Cetinje, which was located in the western region of the country.

According to Interior Minister Danilo Šaranović, the individual who carried out the shooting, who has been named as Aco Martinović, was responsible for the deaths of the proprietor of the pub, the proprietor’s children, and members of his own family.

After the rampage, the perpetrator of the attack, who had fled the scene, was eventually found and encircled by law enforcement. According to Šaranović, he passed away as a result of shooting himself in the head.

A specialized squad had been sent out by the police to seek for the perpetrator of the crime in the town, which is situated approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles) to the northwest of the capital city of Podgorica. The police have flooded the streets, which has resulted in the blocking of all roadways leading into and out of the city.

According to Šaranović, Martinović had passed away while being transported to a hospital in the capital city, succumbing to the “severity of his injuries.”

A national mourning period of three days has been announced by the government, beginning on Thursday. Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has described the massacre as a “terrible tragedy.”

According to Šaranović, the intensity of wrath and cruelty exhibited by individuals of this nature demonstrates that there are instances in which they pose a greater threat than members of organized criminal gangs.

According to the statement made by Police Commissioner Lazar Šćepanović, Martinović was present at the pub throughout the day together with other visitors when the brawl broke out. According to him, Martinović then returned to his residence, carried a firearm with him, and began firing at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The nation of Montenegro, which is relatively small and has a population of approximately 620,000 people, is well-known for its gun culture, and a significant number of its citizens have always possessed firearms.

Cetinje, the medieval capital of Montenegro, has been the site of two separate shooting sprees in the previous three years, the most recent of which occurred on Wednesday. In August of 2022, an assailant was responsible for the deaths of ten individuals, including two children, before he was shot and killed by a bystander in the city of Cetinje.
