SANTA CLARA – Surviving this season’s 49ers carnage are the Pro Bowl streaks of Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Fred Warner and Kyle Juszczyk.
Injuries and the 49ers’ last-place malaise cost others, however.
Left tackle Trent Williams, able to play only the first 10 games this season, got relegated to Pro Bowl alternate status after earning all-star honors the previous 11 seasons he’s played.
Running back Christian McCaffrey, the NFL’s 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year and rushing champion, has yet to repeat as a Pro Bowler in back to back seasons. He appeared in only four games this season, sidelined two months with Achilles tendinitis before a knee injury ended his comeback after four games.
Quarterback Brock Purdy, cornerback Charvarius Ward and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave also failed to repeat as Pro Bowl honorees.
Purdy, cornerback Deommodore Lenoir and defensive end Leonard Floyd joined Williams as alternates this year.
Last year, nine 49ers made the Pro Bowl and 12 were alternates, all of whom bypassed the all-star activities to instead compete in the Super Bowl.
This is Bosa’s fourth straight Pro Bowl season and fifth of his career. His two sacks Monday night raised his team-leading total to nine, as many as he had in his 2019 rookie season when he also made the Pro Bowl. His 32 ½ career sacks rank as the third-most in 49ers history.
Kittle’s Pro Bowl streak is also at four straight seasons (six overall) as he leads the 49ers with 76 receptions for 1,079 yards and eight touchdowns.
Warner received Pro Bowl honors for a third straight season and the fourth of his career. He started strong with three forced fumbles and an interception in the first two games, then sustained an ankle injury in Week 4 that forced him to play through a fracture the rest of this season.
Juszczyk’s ninth straight Pro Bowl honors are the most-ever by a NFL fullback; he is finishing up his eighth season with the 49ers.
