A tragic motorcycle crash early Saturday morning, December 28, 2024, left one person dead and another seriously injured after a Chevrolet Malibu collided with two motorcycles on Fry Road.
At approximately 2:43 a.m., two motorcycles were traveling northbound in the number 1 lane of the 2000 block of Fry Road in West Houston. The motorcycle on the right was operated by Kade Sorrell, with his passenger, Katelyn Sorrell. A gray Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Trymeshia Smith, was stopped in the northbound left turn lane, facing southbound. Smith failed to yield the right of way and turned left in front of the motorcycles.
The motorcycle on the left side of the lane was able to swerve and avoid the Malibu, but the motorcycle on the right side struck the Malibu’s rear passenger door. Both Kade and Katelyn Sorrell were thrown from the motorcycle, landing on the pavement.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Katelyn Sorrell was found unresponsive and pronounced dead. Kade Sorrell was transported to Memorial Hermann-TMC with serious injuries.
During the investigation, Smith was arrested on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). The Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the crash.
