Des Moines, IA – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of central and southern Iowa as up to 4 inches of snowfall is expected in the area Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will develop during the morning hours and coincide with the morning commute, especially in areas like Des Moines, Ames and Marshalltown. The heaviest snowfall is expected to occur between 6 a.m. and late morning, creating hazardous road conditions with reduced visibility.
Counties under advisory include Polk, Story, Marion and Dallas, among others. Snowfall in western counties is expected to begin around 3 a.m. and taper off by the afternoon. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and check the Iowa 511 app or website for the latest road conditions.
This advisory is in effect until noon for western counties and until 3 p.m. for central Iowa counties.
