INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Central Indiana residents should prepare for significant winter weather as a Winter Storm Watch is issued from Sunday morning through Monday evening. The National Weather Service predicts more than 6 inches of snowfall, with the possibility of sleet and freezing rain in southern areas.
According to the NWS, the combination of heavy snow and ice will create poor and dangerous road conditions. Bridges and overpasses will be especially dangerous. High winds can cause tree limbs to fall, potentially causing power outages.
Travel is discouraged during storms. Drivers who must evacuate are urged to carry a winter storm kit including blankets, water, tire chains and emergency supplies. Slow speed and extra caution are necessary.
Utility providers recommend preparing for possible outages by charging electronics, stocking up on flashlights, and stockpiling non-perishable food and water.
The temperature will remain below zero, due to which the risk of icy conditions will remain even after the storm subsides. Stay informed by monitoring weather updates and local emergency alerts.
