Detective Hammes was awarded the Chief’s Commendation Medal for her exceptional investigative efforts, leading to the resolution of two high-profile cases in April 2024.
The first case involved a series of credit card skimming incidents where individuals were using illegal devices to steal financial information. Detective Hammes collaborated with state and federal partners to track down the suspect vehicle, which was located in Beaumont. This crucial breakthrough led to the arrest of two foreign nationals who were charged with multiple counts related to identity theft, fraud, and conspiracy.
The second case, which occurred on the same weekend, involved a suspected intoxicated driver who initially resisted arrest and tried to flee the scene. Upon further investigation, Detective Hammes discovered that a child passenger in the vehicle had suffered severe burns and traumatic injuries. The investigation revealed that the driver had committed multiple felonies in Louisiana before crossing into the jurisdiction. Thanks to Detective Hammes’ thorough work, the driver was apprehended and charged with a number of serious offenses, including child endangerment, assault, and fleeing from law enforcement.
