Binghamton, NY – New York residents should prepare for heavy lake effect snow and gusty winds starting Wednesday evening. Snowfall totals could exceed 7 inches in affected areas by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snow bands may bring 2 inches of accumulation per hour. This will lead to reduced visibility and dangerous travel conditions. Warnings have been issued for parts of New York, including Binghamton and areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Gusty winds will accompany the snowfall, creating blowing and drifting snow. Power outages and tree damage are possible in areas under the warning. The NWS advises avoiding non-essential travel during peak snow periods.
The storm will persist into Thursday before tapering off later in the week. Residents should prepare emergency kits and monitor forecasts for updates. Plows and road crews will work overtime to maintain safe travel routes.
