Fort Jones, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for western Siskiyou County through noon Wednesday, with up to 10 inches of snow expected above 5,500 feet. Gusty winds could make travel conditions hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall will begin Tuesday at 4 p.m., with accumulations of 4–6 inches above 4,500 feet and stronger totals at higher elevations. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, particularly in exposed areas like Etna Summit. Snow levels will rise from 3,500 feet Tuesday evening to 5,000 feet by late Wednesday morning.
Officials warn that roads, including Sawyers Bar Road, could become slippery, potentially disrupting commutes Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Falling tree branches from high winds may add to hazards.
Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution. Updated road conditions are available via California’s QuickMap service. Residents should also watch for icy surfaces on sidewalks and driveways.
