Cheyenne, WY – A snow squall warning has been issued for west-central Kimball and southeastern Laramie Counties, creating hazardous travel conditions. The alert, which began Monday afternoon, remains in effect until 4:45 p.m. MST.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne reported the squall moving northeast at 35 mph. At 4:13 p.m., the dangerous weather event was located seven miles southwest of Gun Barrel. This fast-moving system features bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds, drastically reducing visibility and leading to potential whiteout conditions.
The affected areas include Pine Bluffs, Burns, Egbert, and Hillsdale. According to the weather service, travelers should prepare for near-zero visibility on major roadways, including Interstate 80. Officials warn of life-threatening conditions and advise delaying or avoiding travel altogether until the squall passes.
Winds during the squall could reach up to 35 mph, further compounding the dangers posed by blowing snow. Local residents and motorists are urged to remain indoors and stay informed through weather updates.
Snow squalls are sudden, short-lived bursts of intense snowfall that can catch drivers off guard, causing accidents. Experts recommend drivers pull over and wait if caught in whiteout conditions. Keeping emergency supplies in your vehicle is crucial during severe winter weather.
The National Weather Service continues monitoring the squall’s path and urges anyone traveling in the affected regions to exercise caution.
