WPBN: Those who are celebrating New Year’s Eve, particularly those who are in New York City, should be prepared to get wet because it is expected that rain and temperatures that are above average will be present across the United States on Tuesday night, the night when the world rings in 2025.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the prediction is for rain, thunder, and gusting winds in New York’s Times Square before the ball drops at midnight.
This is because the square is expected to be filled with an estimated one million people who are attending the festivities.

Ponchos are recommended for those who are going to be celebrating New Year’s Eve at Times Square because umbrellas are not permitted there. This will prevent them from getting wet.
On Tuesday, the same weather system that brought snow to the high Plains will move into the states that are located around the Great Lakes and the Ohio River Valley.
However, the temperature will continue to be too warm for snow, and it is anticipated that the precipitation will develop into a messy rain-snow mix.
New York City will get rain on New Year’s Day, and New England will have gusty winds during the afternoon. The fast-moving system will deliver rain to New York City.

Because of the fresh round of Santa Ana winds that are blowing through Southern California, the National Weather Service in Los Angeles has issued a warning about the possibility of “extreme fire” on fresh Year’s Eve, particularly in conjunction with fireworks.
Earlier this month, Santa Ana winds were responsible for fueling the Franklin Fire in Malibu, which resulted in the evacuation of over 20,000 people from their homes.
