Indianapolis, IN – A traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase and officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon on the city’s east side, leaving the suspect deceased and multiple vehicles damaged by gunfire.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the incident began around 4 p.m. when Lawrence Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Pendleton Pike. Shots were allegedly fired from the suspect’s vehicle at pursuing officers during the chase.
The pursuit ended in the 6500 block of E. 30th Street, where officers from both Lawrence Police and IMPD discharged their weapons after the suspect failed to comply with repeated commands. Officers used a drone and armored vehicles to safely approach the car, ultimately finding the suspect unresponsive. Emergency personnel pronounced him deceased on the scene.
A firearm was recovered near the suspect, and no officers or civilians were injured. Multiple vehicles in the area sustained gunfire damage, and residents are encouraged to report such damage by calling 911.
