Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky faces a Wind Advisory today, with gusts reaching 40 mph and sustained winds of 10-20 mph. The advisory, in effect until 7 p.m. EST, is expected to impact areas near and west of I-75, creating potential hazards for unsecured objects, such as holiday decorations, and travelers on the road.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will occur between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., with higher elevations seeing gusts up to 45 mph. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast through 4 p.m., with temperatures reaching 55°F before falling overnight. Rain totals are expected to remain under a quarter inch but could be heavier in localized areas.

Tonight, temperatures will dip to 34°F, with rain showers transitioning to light flurries in some locations before 4 a.m. New Year’s Day will bring partly cloudy skies with a high of 38°F. Late Wednesday afternoon, rain may mix with snow before tapering off, though little to no accumulation is anticipated.

The extended forecast suggests colder days ahead. Thursday and Friday will see highs in the mid-30s, with snow likely Friday afternoon into evening. By Saturday, expect clearer skies and highs near 30°F.

Residents should secure loose items, avoid outdoor activities during peak winds, and remain cautious on elevated roadways, especially in valleys prone to gusty conditions. Travelers should monitor updates for potential delays.
