Dearborn, MI – A 40-year-old man riding an electric bike died Sunday morning after a crash on Schaefer Road.

Police said the incident happened around 11 a.m. near Colson Street. Investigators revealed the cyclist lost control and struck a utility pole. Emergency responders arrived promptly and performed lifesaving measures. Fire personnel transported the injured cyclist to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead.

According to the Dearborn Police Department, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the crash. Authorities emphasized that protective equipment could have potentially reduced the severity of the accident.

The Dearborn Police Department confirmed the man was a local resident. However, officials are withholding his name until they notify his family. Police will collaborate with the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death.

City officials remind residents that electric bikes can reach significant speeds, making safety gear crucial for reducing risks. This crash remains under investigation as officials continue to gather details about what led to the accident.
