Grand Junction, CO – Residents should prepare for a winter storm set to bring snow to the region Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Forecasters are warning travelers to exercise caution on mountain passes, where conditions may become hazardous.
According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Junction, cooler weather is expected today, with high temperatures near 41°F. New Year’s Day will remain calm, with partly sunny skies and highs reaching 40°F. However, the weather will take a dramatic turn on Wednesday evening as snow moves into the northern and central mountains, potentially impacting high-elevation travel routes like I-70.
The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight Wednesday into Thursday. While snowfall in the Grand Junction valley will remain light, mountain areas may see significant accumulation, creating difficult travel conditions. Temperatures will drop to 22°F Wednesday night and gradually rise to 46°F by Thursday afternoon.
Looking further ahead, Friday will bring sunny skies and a high near 49°F, while Saturday could see a slight chance of rain and snow showers in the evening. Highs will climb to 50°F, signaling a milder weekend.
Travelers should monitor updates and plan for potential delays, especially in high-elevation areas. Locals are encouraged to stock up on supplies and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
