HOUSTON, TX – A caregiver has been arrested and charged in connection with the March death of a 16-year-old girl found at a residence in the 700 block of East 32nd Street.
The suspect, Tracy Gonzales, 48, is charged with injury to a disabled person with serious bodily injury in the 488th State District Court. She was arrested on December 30 following a months-long investigation.
According to Houston police, officers responded to the residence around 7:45 p.m. on March 25 and discovered Nayeli Perez, 16, unresponsive in her bedroom. She had suffered unknown injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later ruled her death a homicide. Investigators determined Gonzales, who was Perez’s caregiver, was responsible for the injuries that led to her death.
