Spokane, WA – Freezing fog across Spokane and surrounding areas is creating dangerous conditions on roads and sidewalks this morning. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution, especially along Highway 2 west of Spokane and in Coeur d’Alene.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing fog began developing early Tuesday morning, reducing visibility and causing black ice on untreated surfaces. The advisory affects the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene area, Palouse, and other low-lying regions. Bridges and overpasses are particularly hazardous, with slick conditions persisting through late morning.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use extreme caution, especially during peak commuting hours. Pedestrians should avoid rushing and wear sturdy footwear to prevent slips and falls.

Looking ahead, Wednesday, New Year’s Day, will see patchy freezing fog in the morning, followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 35°F. Snow is likely overnight into Thursday morning, with accumulations up to half an inch. Later in the week, a mix of rain and snow is expected, with highs near 38°F by Friday.

With changing conditions, stay informed by checking road updates and forecasts regularly. Avoid unnecessary travel during icy conditions and be prepared with winter safety kits in vehicles.
