Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of western and northern New York, effective from Wednesday morning through Sunday afternoon, with significant snowfall expected in multiple counties.
According to the NWS, areas including Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties could see heavy lake-effect snow beginning Wednesday afternoon. Snowfall totals are anticipated to exceed 7 inches, with the heaviest accumulation expected across the Tug Hill Plateau and southeast of Lake Ontario.
Counties in western New York, including Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie, are also under the watch starting Wednesday morning. Similar snowfall totals of over 7 inches are expected, with hazardous conditions potentially affecting commutes on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The NWS advises that narrow bands of lake-effect snow could lead to rapidly changing road conditions and limited visibility, creating localized travel challenges throughout the storm’s duration. Residents are encouraged to prepare for difficult travel and monitor forecasts for updates.
Stay tuned for further advisories and updates as the storm approaches.
