Wichita, KS – Strong northwest winds and above-normal temperatures are making their mark across Wichita today, with highs reaching 58 degrees. Residents can expect gusts up to 50 mph this afternoon and into the evening. The combination of mild weather and strong winds may pose hazards for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, gusty conditions will start to taper off overnight, but temperatures will plummet. Lows will reach 35 degrees tonight, bringing a chill after the day’s breezy warmth. Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will see highs in the low 40s, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s.

New Year’s Eve will feature mostly clear skies, making it ideal for celebrations, but dress warmly as temperatures fall to 24 degrees. A steady north wind will add to the chill. The cooler trend will persist into Thursday and Friday, with highs struggling to reach 45 degrees.

Drivers on Kansas highways, including I-35 and U.S. Route 54, should remain cautious of high wind conditions, especially those operating high-profile vehicles. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind periods today.
