Spokane, WA – Snowfall and freezing fog are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across eastern Washington and northern Idaho this week. Mountain passes, including 4th of July and Lookout Pass, are under special advisory as snow continues to fall through New Year’s Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, snow will intensify Tuesday night and persist through Wednesday morning, potentially causing treacherous conditions. Motorists should anticipate slick roads, reduced visibility, and delays, especially along Interstate 90. Drivers heading to higher elevations should prepare for chain requirements and allow extra travel time.
The extended forecast warns of patchy freezing fog through Tuesday, complicating travel in Spokane and surrounding areas. Snow levels are expected to drop to 2,400 feet by Thursday, with a mix of rain and snow predicted. Accumulations may reach up to one inch by Wednesday, with heavier snowfall likely in mountain regions.
Daytime highs this week will hover near 36°F, while nighttime lows could dip to 29°F, increasing the risk of icy surfaces. Commuters are urged to monitor weather alerts, drive cautiously, and carry emergency kits.
With another storm system arriving Thursday night, wet conditions will persist through Friday. Residents should plan ahead for potential delays and consider postponing non-essential travel.
