Charleston, SC – Residents can expect patchy morning fog on Tuesday before a cold front brings cooler temperatures and light rain. The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures reaching the upper 60s by the afternoon, but rain chances increase slightly between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
According to the NWS Charleston office, visibility will remain low early Tuesday due to dense fog, especially along US 17 and I-26. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and use low-beam headlights. By midday, a 20% chance of rain will roll in as southwest winds reach 6 to 16 mph, keeping the day breezy but warm.
As the cold front passes late Tuesday, conditions will turn cooler overnight, with lows dipping to around 47°F. Sunny skies are expected for New Year’s Day, with a high near 59°F and breezy northwest winds at 11 to 14 mph, creating a crisp start to 2025.
The week ahead remains mostly sunny and dry, with highs ranging from the mid-50s to lower 60s. Thursday and Friday will be particularly clear and sunny, though nighttime lows could plunge into the mid-30s. By Sunday, highs will hover near 52°F, capping off a cooler start to January.
Locals planning New Year’s Eve outdoor celebrations should dress for breezy, mild weather but remain cautious of fog in the early morning hours. Stay updated with weather changes on the NWS website or local news outlets.
