Detroit, MI – Snowfall is expected to impact Metro Detroit on New Year’s Eve, creating slick road conditions for travelers. A rain-snow mix will develop Tuesday morning, with intensifying precipitation through the afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecasted for areas west and north of Metro Detroit. High temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s early Tuesday will drop to the lower 30s by evening, allowing snow to accumulate, particularly overnight.
The snowfall will affect travel plans during a busy holiday period. Slushy conditions are possible earlier in the day, while icy spots could develop by evening. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow extra time, and exercise caution, especially in northern and western suburbs like Flint and Howell.
Light snow is expected to continue Tuesday night, tapering off by Wednesday morning. By then, snow totals of up to 2 inches will cover most of southeast Michigan, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Monroe.
Forecasters recommend checking the latest updates and road conditions before heading out. The combination of reduced visibility and icy patches could make travel hazardous, particularly in areas with higher snowfall amounts.
Residents are advised to prepare for slower commutes and consider adjusting plans for New Year’s Eve festivities. Snowplows will work to clear roads, but minor travel delays are likely.
