Des Moines, IA – Thick fog is spreading across Iowa, with visibility dropping to less than a quarter mile in several areas. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly on Interstate 29, I-80, and Highway 20, where fog is expected to linger into late Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, the Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon Monday. The advisory covers northern, central, and southeastern Iowa, with visibility remaining poor during the morning commute. Travelers should prepare for reduced speeds and allow extra travel time to ensure safety.

Rain will also develop late Monday, further complicating road conditions. Forecasters predict light showers through the afternoon, with temperatures peaking near 41°F. By Monday night, colder air will bring a mix of rain and snow, with up to half an inch of snow possible in some areas.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will see a break in precipitation, but temperatures will plummet, with highs near 30°F and gusty winds up to 23 mph. New Year’s Eve brings mostly sunny skies but frigid conditions, with a low of 19°F expected.

Residents should monitor weather updates and exercise caution on fog-affected roadways. Avoid unnecessary travel where visibility is near zero, and use low-beam headlights if driving in foggy conditions.
